15th October of every year marks the celebration of Global Handwashing Day. The day sees a united effort from the global community to emphasize the importance of hand washing. Despite being a very basic every-day task role of hand washing has enormous importance in people’s health and well being especially in the third world countries.

Haiti Hand Washing and Cholera Prevention

In conjunction with Global Hand Washing Day, AmeriCares Haiti supported seven partner organizations conducting community activities that promote hand washing and good health in urban slum and rural communities where hygiene is particularly poor due to limited access to health education, water and hygiene materials. The overall goal of these activities is to educate area residents on how to prevent diarrheal diseases like cholera and to reinforce good hygiene practices.

Handwashing celebration day in Houndé, October 14th

The city of Houndé (Burkina Faso) is joining the worldwide celebration of Global Handwashing Day, on October 14th. Under the patronage of the Ministry of Water, Hydraulic Planning and Sanitation, several games and activities promoting proper hygiene practices will be launched in schools and all over the public places.
