Lessons from Zaragoza: Indicators, Integration, and Human Rights for Hygiene Post-2015

We are only a few weeks into 2015, but the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing and other actors within the international development community have been anticipating this landmark year for quite some time. Later this year, the Member States of the United Nations will agree upon a new set of global, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to replace the expiring Millennium Development Goals.

Global Handwashing Celebration in Afghanistan

This year’s Global Handwashing Day in Afghanistan is dedicated to the eradication of polio and to raising awareness of the role and importance of handwashing and appropriate hygiene practices in the eradication of polio from Afghanistan and from the world.

Afghanistan is one of only three remaining countries where polio has never been eradicated. Handwashing with soap and appropriate hygiene practices are crucial to prevent the spread of the polio virus.
