Conference on the Role of the Private Sector in Poverty Reduction, Oslo, June 19, 2003
Joana Godinho, World Bank, gave a presentation on the PPPHWI at the Conference organized by the Norwegian/Finnish - World Bank Trust Fund for Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development on The Role of the Private Sector in Poverty Reduction, in Oslo, June 19, at the Water for the Poor session. Presentation at the Global Health Council's Annual Conference, Washington, May 27, 2003
The LSHTM, CDC and the PPPHWI team gave a presentation titled "How to Save a Million Lives a Year: The Health Impact of Handwashing with Soap" at the Global Health Council's Annual Conference in Washington on May 27. The session focused on establishing the impact of handwashing on health. Speakers included Valerie Curtis, LSHTM, Stephen Luby, CDC and Joana Godinho, World Bank. See presentation.

Third World Water Forum, Kyoto, March 16, 2003
At the 3rd World Water Forum held on March 16 to 23, 2003 in Kyoto, Shiga and Osaka, Japan, the initiative was showcased at three sessions: the WASH Campaign session, the WHO meeting on safe water in households, and “Innovative Approaches to PPPs”. The video of the initiative was also screened at the PPP meeting in Osaka.

World Summit on Sustainable Development, September 2002
A full day of activities was organized in the World Bank pavilion at the WaterDome at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa, on September 2. Considerable mileage was gained. A number of world leaders such as Ronie Kasals, South Africa Minister of Water, Claire Short, former British Minister for International Development, Mrs Kofi Annan, HE the Prince of Orange and James Wolfensohn, the President of the World Bank did symbolic demonstration of washing their hands with soap and endorsed the initiative. One of the great achievements was the wide level of acceptance of the handwashing cause given its relation to many of the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs), linking water and sanitation to health outcomes, and also, its focus on forming partnerships for development. See presentations.
